The sissy squat is a top exercise for building the quadriceps and gluteal muscles very specifically and effectively , but also strengthening your core at the same time. It involves locking your legs in a fixed position and bending backwards, with tension on your thighs.

Sissy Squat benches consist of a platform on which you stand, with a vertical pad for your calves to rest on and a bar that locks your legs in place. 

They allow you to perform supported squats, which means you can push your weight right back without losing your balance.
